Seasonal PTIN Tax Preparer

Help individuals and small businesses file accurate returns with a Fort Wayne, Indiana tax firm that serves clients across the country.

What you'll do

  • Prepare individual returns, including W-2 and self-employed (Schedule C) clients
  • Follow IRS due diligence rules, including Form 8867 where it applies
  • Protect client information using the firm's secure systems
  • Work under our firm's review and e-file process

What we're looking for

  • An active 2027 PTIN before preparing returns for pay
  • A reliable computer, secure internet and a private place to work
  • Willingness to complete training and background screening
  • Honesty, accuracy and good communication with clients
About pay and worker status: compensation details are shared during the hiring process. Whether a preparer is a W-2 employee or a 1099 contractor is decided by the actual working relationship and applicable federal and Indiana law, not by the number of returns prepared.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a PTIN to apply?
To apply as a tax preparer, you need an active PTIN or a plan to renew it for 2027. Anyone who prepares federal returns for pay must have a current PTIN. If you don't have one yet, choose "Start My Tax Preparer Journey" and we'll send you information. Learn more on the IRS PTIN page.
Is this a remote job?
Yes. Preparers work remotely from a private, secure workspace using the firm's approved systems and security practices.
When are interviews held?
Interviews are on Zoom, Saturdays between 12:00 and 5:00 PM Eastern. Interview links are sent only to applicants approved after screening.
Will I be a W-2 employee or a 1099 contractor?
Pay and worker status are discussed during hiring. Worker status depends on the actual working relationship and applicable federal and Indiana law, and is reviewed before any work begins.
Is there a background check?
Selected candidates are asked to sign a separate background check authorization. Screening happens only after you authorize it.
What information do you ask for on the application?
Only basic contact details and screening answers. We never ask for your Social Security number, PTIN number, bank details or ID on this page. Any required documents are collected later through a secure process.
